Capacité physique ou intellectuelle :

I can swim.
I can speak English.

When you are 16, you will be able to drive with an adult.
(Quand vous aurez 16 ans, vous pourrez conduire avec un adulte.)

I will be able to speak English when I go to England.
(Je pourrai parler anglais quand j'irai en Angleterre.)

 

Incapacité physique ou intellectuelle :

I can't play the piano.
I can't speak Spanish.

 If you are not 18, you won't be able to vote at the next elections.
(Si vous n'avez pas 18 ans vous ne pourrez pas voter aux prochaines élections.)

Obligation :
You must obey your parents. If you go to England by car with your parents, they will have to drive on the left..
(Si vous allez en Angleterre en voiture avec vos parents, il faudra qu'ils conduisent à gauche.)

Absence d'obligation :
I needn't do the washing-up because my husband always does it. My Mum has just bought a dishwasher, so she won't have to do the washing-up any longer.
(Ma mère vient d'acheter un lave vaisselle, alors elle n'aura plus beasoin de faire la vaisselle.)

Permission :
At school, you can play games in the playground. When you are 18, you will be allowed to get married without your parents' permission.
(Quand vous aurez 18 ans, vous aurez le droit de vous marier sans la permission de vos parents.)
Interdiction :
You mustn't smoke at school.

I won't be allowed to go to the cinema tomorrow, because I didn't get good marks at school.
