In the 17th century, James I was King of England and he was Protestant. Guy Fawkes was not protestant but he was catholic so he wanted to kill the King. The soldiers found him in Parliament under the House of Lords. On November 5th 1605, they took him to the Tower of London and he was executed.
Today the 5th of November is not a holiday but it is a very popular date. People have a firework party in their gardens where they build a bonfire. They make a guy and then they burn it on top of the bonfire and finally they cook jacket potatoes in the bonfire and they watch firework displays.
